What you need to rent the SR20

To rent the Cirrus SR20 from Wilco Aviation you need a Private Pilot certificate or higher, a current FAA medical or BasicMed, a flight review within the preceding 24 calendar months, renter’s insurance, and a checkout with one of our instructors. Student pilots may fly only with a CFI on board.

Certificate and experience

Private Pilot certificate or higher, airplane single-engine land. Zero Cirrus time is fine — the checkout is built for pilots coming from Cessnas and Pipers.

Medical and currency

A current FAA medical certificate, or BasicMed. A flight review completed within the preceding 24 calendar months. If you plan to carry passengers, the FAA also requires three takeoffs and landings in the preceding 90 days.

Insurance

Non-owned (renter’s) aircraft insurance is required before your first solo flight in the aircraft. Ask us and we will point you at carriers who quote quickly.

The checkout

Every renter completes a checkout with one of our instructors before flying solo. It covers the CAPS parachute system and when to use it, the Avidyne and Garmin avionics, engine and fuel management, and normal and emergency procedures specific to the SR20. Cost: $250, which covers the application and the checkout ride.

What we do not do

This is a Part 91 dry rental. You are pilot-in-command and we do not provide a crew. You may not carry passengers or cargo for compensation or hire — that requires a Part 135 air carrier certificate, which we do not hold. You may share operating expenses pro rata with your passengers as long as you pay an equal or greater share.
